Maths Trail
The annual Maths Trail was held on 28 Feb 2013 at Mount Faber SAFRA for the Secondary 2 students. The aims of this event are:
- to apply mathematical concepts that they have learnt in school to solve real-life problems
- learn life skills to meet future challenges
- learn to work in teams
- apply creative and critical thinking skills
- enjoy solving mathematical problems through a sport as a medium
During the event, the students were divided into 2 groups; 1 group had the chance to bowl first, while another group did a worksheet in which they had to apply mathematics concepts to bowling and solve some questions. At the halfway mark, the groups switched their activities.
Some of the mathematics concept that the students had applied were: calculating the bowling rate and volume of the bowling ball, etc. In addition, some tenents of Physical and National Education were also infused into this Maths Trail.
What an opportunity for the students to learn a sport and yet see mathematics come alive!
